Art Classes

ARTitorium on Broadway offers art classes for kids ages 5 and up in a variety of subjects and mediums. Classes generally run for four weeks and begin fresh with the new month. Months may not be included or may have shorter classes due to school breaks.

April Art Classes


Dinosaur Art | Ages 5-7

Students will design a city full of buildings and a big dinosaur to walk down it, paint a dinosaur and a place for him to live. Make a dinosaur sculpture. All things dinosaur!

Foiled Again | Ages 8-10 

We will use heavy duty foil to make a drawing pad cover and use foil to do some sculpting.  Foil sheets will let us do some cool positive and negative space art, and we will work on some copper embossing.

Designing with Color | Ages 9+ 

We will start with mixing paint to make a tertiary color wheel, then use the color wheel to talk about colors and ways to put them together. Students will do several projects using different color schemes, from warm and cool, to complimentary or analogous.

Fundamentals of Art and Design *Especially for Homeschoolers!* | Ages 7+ 

Students will learn basic elements of art, line, shape, color, texture, value, and form.

This class will be individualized to fit the needs of the students in the class.  If they are already familiar with some aspects of the curriculum, we will move through those and focus on where they need to learn. If they haven’t had much experience with art, we will work at the beginning. The class can be split into three groups, each working on a separate project if needed.

May Art Classes



Nature Collage | Ages 5-7 

Let’s make collages out of things from nature. Sticks, stones, seashells, beans, etc. It is fun to make patterns and designs from nature.

World Patterns | Ages 8-10 

Learn about art around the world and take yours to new places! We will explore circle designs from Islamic art, geometric shape designs from Africa, along with Native American designs, and more and then make our own.

Find Your Perspective | Ages 9+ 

Fun ways for beginners to learn how to use perspective in drawing landscapes, buildings and trees. It looks tricky but you just need to know the tricks!

FIND YOUR PERSPECTIVE *For Homeschoolers!* | Ages 7+

Learn some basic perspective drawing, why it works, and how to get a feel for using it. We will draw a realistic building, pictures that make us think about how perspective works, and practice “seeing” what we really see and not what our mind tells us.

June Art Classes


First Elements of Design | Ages 5-7

Learn the first basics of design elements: line, shape, and color. Do a project on each element, then one that uses all together.

Japanese Art Projects | Ages 8-11

Learn about Japanese art while completing several Japanese-inspired art projects, inculding paper marbling, fish printing, and otehr fun projects.

Art Studio Class | Ages 7+

Each little artist picks a medium to specialize in. Complete a technique workshop to learn the basics, then do at least three designs or sketches to talk about with the teacher before working on an individual artwork. Finished artwork will include an artist statement telling what the work means to them. All completed art work can be submitted to be included in an end-of-summer art gallery. Session One Media: Watercolor or Drawing (pencil, pen, pastels, or color pencils)

Animal Landscapes | Ages 5-7

Learn the basics of landscapes by designing habitats for different animals - a panda and a bamboo forest or a camel in the desert. Do several mixed media projects of animals and where they live.

Landscapes | Ages 8-11 

Paint, draw, print, and more as we make landscapes real or imaginary. Learn the fundamentals, then make a fantasy land to house a dragon or an island to hide treasure or whatever you think up.

Birds | Ages 5-7

What is more summer-y than birds? Make realistic, patterned, and crazy birds. Practice elements of design by using birds as your subject.

Play games based on art, draw a crazy creature based on the roll of a dice, design an animal by picking words from a bucket, paint with your toes, and be surprised what you come up with!
